Improvement Science Research Network (ISRN) - Home

Improvement Science Introduction
For quality improvement and patient safety efforts, the health care industry needs reliable, replicable findings about optimal improvement strategies. Health care institutions are building their quality improvement initiatives without a sufficient evidence base to guide their design or quantify their potential impact.

The Improvement Science Research Network (ISRN), supported by the National Institute of Nursing and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is designed to address these challenges.

The ISRN’s primary mission is to accelerate inter-professional improvement science in a systems context across multiple hospital sites and to build a network for testing which improvement approaches work in acute care settings.

Two upcoming events will focus on improvement science and the activities of the ISRN:

· June 14, 2010 - Improvement Science Research Network Webinar: The Way Forward: An Introduction to Improvement Science. This webinar will summarize the rationale and need for the ISRN, outline the goals of the network, present future plans, and call for participation.

· July 7, 2010 - The First Annual Improvement Science Summit: The Way Forward. Featuring keynote speaker Dr. Carolyn Clancy, Director of AHRQ, this one-day meeting will focus on theory, research methodology, and evaluation approaches. Participants will learn about research methods in this emerging field and how to create, conduct, and assess improvement studies.
