New global diabetes education and management forum launched
Posted on 04 October 2010
D-NET—the Diabetes Education Network for Health Professionals—the first international forum aimed at enhancing diabetes education and management around the world, was recently launched by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).
D-NET aims to provide a dynamic discussion forum for international diabetes health professionals. The invitation to join is open to health care professionals and educators around the globe interested in diabetes education and care.
The concept for D-NET was conceived after the World Diabetes Congress in Montreal in 2009 during a meeting for diabetes educators held by the Canadian Diabetes Association. The meeting concluded with a consensus that an international diabetes education network would provide valuable opportunities for health professionals and educators to learn from one another and to improve care for people with diabetes. IDF was selected as the organization to host such a network due to its international mandate and membership of over 200 diabetes associations worldwide.
Health professionals will have the opportunity to meet new colleagues, share best practices and learning opportunities, find innovative solutions, and advance education and management of diabetes through the online forum. Members of the site will also be able to participate in discussions with experts in their field, including a talk led by the Consultative Section on Diabetes Education (DECS) scheduled to take place next month. Discussion groups are available in English and Spanish, with more languages to come soon.
By joining the network, members will have access to emerging evidence and diabetes resources, along with videos featuring IDF Centres of Education around the world. A calendar of discussion topics, articles and more are available on the site at http://d-net.idf.org.
