Center for Disease Control and Prevention: The Health Communicator's Social Media Toolkit

CDC Social Media Toolkit The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a robust social media program, which spans across many platforms, including Facebook, with more than 60,000 followers, and multiple Twitter accounts for health and safety information, social media updates, emergency information, and flu updates, which have more than 1.4 million followers combined.

Recently, the CDC published a Social Media Toolkit for health communicators that outlines everything from "developing a social media strategy" to "lessons learned" on platforms ranging from widgets and ecards to blogs. This comprehensive Toolkit highlights health organizations that are successfully deploying theses strategies in their own programs and provides resources for further information. Additionally, the Toolkit includes a case study for one of the CDC's most successful campaigns: The 2009-2010 H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Outbreak Campaign, which included buttons/badges, widgets, online video, text messaging, Twitter, a blog, and a Facebook page.
