Abstract
Among the ethical issues confronting maternal-child nurses are questions surrounding genetic testing, contraception and sterilization, infertility/assisted reproductive technology, and equality in balancing maternal-fetal needs. This article explores these issues and provides implications for clinical practice. Supporting childbearing families in the face of ethical issues include emotional and physical support, informational support, and advocacy support. The historical imperative, "women and children fi rst" can be applied in the provision of ethical care for women and children.
