Get ready to pop the popcorn, because National Health IT Week (#NHITweek on Twitter) is just two days and a wake up away!
Consumer Summit
ONC is kicking off the week with the Consumer Health IT Summit lead by our chief consumerista, Lygeia Riccardi (@Lygeia). Check out her blog that takes a look at the Blue Button movement and how you can get involved before you participate in the summit on Monday. The summit focuses on the Blue Button Movement (#BlueButton) and how patients can use their own health data to help doctors better coordinate care. You can watch the webcast of the event.
We are also holding a social media meetup Monday evening following the Summit at HHS, so if you are interested in attending please drop us an email (Brett.Coughlin@hhs.gov).
National Health IT Week webinars
The overall goal of Health IT Week is to highlight the path to Interoperability, which depends on five elements: adoption and optimizationof EHRs and HIE services, standards, financial and clinical incentives, privacy and security, and rules of engagement.
Here are some opportunities to both educate yourself and weigh in on the latest policies and initiatives even if you aren’t able to hop on a plane to D.C.
On Tuesday, our policy chief, Jodi Daniel (@JodiDaniel) will give an update on ONC’s health information exchange governance activities along with Kory Mertz, our Challenge Grant Director and industry leaders including Paul Uhrig, the chief privacy officer at Surescripts, among others.
Sign up for the webinar, which will kick off Tuesday at 3p.m. (EDT).
The theme for Wednesday is Transforming the Health Care System through Health IT. In that spirit, we are also sponsoring a webinar to share lessons learned from Colorado. Brian Braun with the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (@CORHIO), Patrick Gordon of the Colorado Beacon Community Program and Dr. Gregory Reicks, one of our Health IT Fellows, will participate in the webinar, which begins at 3:30 p.m. (EDT).
Sign up now and learn how HITECH Programs are supporting healthcare providers in Colorado transform into highly functioning, health IT enabled practices
On Thursday -- In case you are too busy for either of those, our Beacon team (#HITBeacon) is also hosting another webinar: Shining on through Health IT. Hear about lessons learned from the Greater Cincinnati Beacon Community and the Southeast Minnesota Beacon Community. The webinar kicks off Thursday at 11:30 a.m. (EDT), so check it out!
Patient Matching Initiative launched
We announced on our Buzz blog Wednesday an initiative to match patients to their electronic health records in a bid to “improve safety, care coordination and efficiency,” Lee Stevens, ONC’s State HIE Program director, wrote in his post about the project. Please go to our Buzz blog to read more.
