The WHO estimates that 1 in 5 people develop cancer in their lifetime, and its survey revealed substantial global inequities in cancer services. Recent advances in AI have the potential to improve cancer care both at a molecular level, through precise diagnostics and biomarker discovery, and by enhancing health equity across underserved populations. This Series features three papers that discuss the potential of AI in cancer care through an equity lens. They explore how AI-assisted pathology could improve diagnosis, in particular in resource-limited regions, how AI could transform the care of women with cancer, and how AI could strengthen healthcare systems in low-resource settings such as Sub-Saharan Africa. Together, these papers highlight opportunities where AI can help reduce disparities in cancer care worldwide.
