Impact of the Biopharmaceutical Sector on the U.S. Economy
1 March, 2009 -
A new report released by Archstone Consulting and Lawton R. Burns, Ph.D., analyzes the impact that the biopharmaceutical sector has on the U.S. economy. The report provides information at the national, state, and metropolitan statistical area (MSA) levels. The analysis examines various activities associated with American biopharmaceutical companies with respect to employment levels, wages and personal taxes, and economic impact (as measured by dollar contribution to GDP and dollar output). Investment in R&D and ongoing clinical trials are also considered. The report concentrates on the economic activity associated with biopharmaceutical companies in 2006, and it review changes in economic activity between 1996 and 2006, given that 2006 was the most recent year for which complete data was available for the analyses conducted.
