Project Update: NIH Blue Ribbon Panel to Advise on the Risk Assessment of the NEIDL at Boston University Medical Center
The NIH Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP) provides scientific and technical advice to the NIH, through the Advisory Committee to the Director, as the agency responds to the comments and concerns voiced by state and federal courts, the local community, the National Research Council, and the general public regarding the construction and operation of a national biocontainment laboratory at Boston University Medical Center. Project Update
Welcome to the NIH Blue Ribbon Panel Web site. As always, we welcome your feedback and comments on the Web site and activities of the Panel. You may send comments to BRP_NIH@od.nih.gov.
February 2010
An independent contractor has begun the process of developing a draft supplementary risk assessment for the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories at Boston University Medical Center. Since the earliest planning stages, NIH has been working to ensure that the assessment will be comprehensive and that the concerns of the Boston Community will be fully considered. Toward that end, NIH is seeking advice from the independent Blue Ribbon Panel throughout the design and conduct of the study.
In the coming months, the Blue Ribbon Panel will continue to periodically review the developing draft supplementary risk assessment. NIH has also engaged the National Research Council (NRC) to review and provide input at key milestones during the development of the draft report. The NRC’s input will be discussed at open meetings, and members of the public will have opportunities to offer their comments during these meetings as well. The next such public meeting will be scheduled shortly. To stay apprised of plans for this meeting, please consult our Meetings page.
