Current Vaccine Shortages & Delays
Last Updated February 11, 2010
Note1: Merck's adult and dialysis formulations of their hepatitis B vaccine (Recombivax HB®) currently are not available. The adult formulation will not be available during the first half of 2010; the dialysis formulation will become available in Q3 of 2010. Production and supply of GSK's adult hepatitis B vaccine (Adult Engerix-B®) and Adult hepatitis A/hepatitis B combination vaccine (Twinrix®) currently are sufficient to meet demand for routine adult usage of this vaccine as well as CDC's ongoing High Risk Adult Hepatitis B Initiative. Updated January 27, 2010
Note2: Effective July 1, 2009, CDC, in consultation with ACIP, AAFP, and AAP, is recommending reinstatement of the booster dose of Hib vaccine for children aged 12 through 15 months who have completed the primary 3-dose series. Currently available Hib vaccine products include monovalent Hib vaccines from GSK (Hiberix®, licensed for use as the booster dose only); Merck (PedvaxHIB®); and sanofi pasteur (ActHIB®). Currently available Hib-containing combination vaccines include sanofi pasteur's Pentacel® (DTaP-IPV/Hib). The combination products from Merck (Hep B-Hib, Comvax®) and sanofi pasteur (DTaP-Hib, TriHIBit®) currently are not available. Updated February 11, 2010
Note3: Based on input from the ACIP, professional societies, scientific leaders, and customers on October 26, 2009 Merck announced the company has decided not to resume production of ATTENUVAX® (Measles Virus Vaccine Live), MUMPSVAX® (Mumps Virus Vaccine Live), and MERUVAX®II (Rubella Virus Vaccine Live). This science-based decision will support vaccination of the largest group of appropriate individuals. Updated January 27, 2010
Note4: MMRV (ProQuad®) will be available in 2010, but details on timing and
availability are not currently available. Merck has adequate supply of both their MMR and varicella vaccines to meet current demand. Updated February 5, 2010
Note5: The Adult formulation of hepatitis A vaccine (VAQTA®) from Merck will not be available in 2010. GSK's production and supply of their adult hepatitis A vaccine (Adult Havrix®) and their adult hepatitis A/ hepatitis B combination vaccine (Twinrix®) currently are adequate to meet demand for adult hepatitis A vaccination.
