2010 PDA/FDA Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Workshop

Overview
The 2010 PDA/FDA Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Workshop is intended to stimulate implementation of improvements in supply chain integrity. Thought provoking keynote presentations will precede a series of breakout sessions designed to provide all participants with the opportunity to share and learn current and best supply chain management practices. Participants should come prepared to suggest and discuss tangible solutions to existing problems in the pharmaceutical ingredient and drug product supply chains. During the workshop, proposed solutions will be evaluated for practicality and worthiness. Summaries of all breakout sessions will be presented on the final day so that attendees have the opportunity to hear about all of the breakout session deliverables.

Workshop sessions will include:
Benchmarking: Beyond Pharma Industry: During this session, attendees will be able to evaluate other industry learning experiences on how to overcome similar benchmarking challenges.

Enhancing Supplier Quality Management: The breakout groups will discuss and evaluate ways to enhance supplier quality management including supplier selection and qualification processes, as well as on-going monitoring and management.

Increasing Incoming Components of Supply Chain Distribution Controls: Breakout groups will explore and evaluate ways to improve supply chain distribution controls for incoming materials and components, including supply route security and verification, verification of incoming components and materials and authentication of supporting documentation.

Improving Analysis and Testing Strategies and Technologies: Participants will also discuss enhanced testing programs and implementation of new technologies to improve the detection of adulterants (including economic motivated adulterants). The breakout groups will discuss and determine the proper use of certificates of analysis.

Monitoring and Responding to Signals in the Marketplace: Breakout groups will discuss ways to develop and improve monitoring signals and assessing the risk of the market/environment, including economically motivated adulteration risks, as well as alert, response and communication at local and global level.

Enhancing Product Distribution Supply Chain Controls: The breakout groups will discuss how to improve controls over product distribution channels, including qualification of transport providers, supply chain security and verification and enhancing the detection of diverted products.

Use of Serialization, Track and Trace, ePedigree: Breakout groups will discuss approaches to achieve harmonized regulatory and technological standards, implementation of new technologies and improvements in serialization in packaging operations and in distribution channels, and verification approaches.
Over the 2.5 days, workshop participants have the opportunity to participate in five plenary sessions and three breakout workshops and a final summary session which will bring together all the lessons learned from the seven workshop sessions.
