Vaccines: Pubs/PinkBook/Changes 12th edition 2011


The 12th edition of the Pink Book will not be available until early 2011. In the meantime, see http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/pink-changes.htm, a summary of major changes that will be incorporated into the 12th edition, with links to relevant references. Note that you can also download a 2-page pdf document containing the same information, which can be printed and inserted into the current edition for quick reference.

12th Edition Preview

The 12th edition of Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases will be published in early 2011. Following are important updates to the 11th edition that will be included:

Chapter 2 (General Recommendations on Immunization)

The section on vaccination of hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients will be updated to correspond with revisions of this informatin in a new edition of the ACIP General Recommendations on Immunization, expected to be published in late 2010.



Chapter 6 (Haemophilus influenza type b)

Information will be included on Hiberix, a new Hib conjugate vaccine approved for the booster dose of the Hib vaccination series.

Chapter 7 (Hepatitis A)

This chapter will include a new recommendation for hepatitis A vaccination of close contacts of internationally adopted children.

Chapter 9 (Human Papillomavirus)

In 2009 a bivalent HPV vaccine was approved for females 10 through 25 years of age, and the licensure of quadrivalent HPV vaccine was changed to include vaccination of males 9 through 26 years of age to prevent genital warts. Chapter 10 (Influenza)

Chapters 11 (Measles), 13 (Mumps), 18 (Rubella), and 20 (Varicella)

These chapters will include a discussion of the revised ACIP recommendation for use of combination measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV) vaccine. See http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/pdf/rr/rr5903.pdf [PDF-225KB, 16 pages]

Chapter 12 (Meningococcal Disease)

Revised chapter will include information about Menveo, a recently-licensed meningococcal conjugate vaccine (see http;//www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5909a5.htm) and information about revaccination with meningococcal conjugate vaccines (see http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5837a4.htm?s_cid=mm5837a4_e).



Chapter 15 (Pneumococcal Disease)

This chapter will include a description of and recommendations for the new 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. See http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5909a2.htm.



Chapter 16 (Poliomyelitis)

This chapter will include revised recommendations for the interval and age of the last dose in the inactivated polio vaccine series.

Appendices

Other Appendices will be updated as necessary.
