Today marks the 49^th anniversary of the signing of Medicare and Medicaid into law.  More than 52 million people are now covered by Medicare and more than 60 million people by Medicaid.  These programs have improved the length as well as the quality of life for countless Americans over the years, providing health and economic security to the most vulnerable in our nation.
