Recruitment Announcement: Social Science Analyst/Health Services Researcher

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s Center for Delivery, Organizations, and Markets (CDOM) is recruiting an experienced Social Science Analyst or Health Services Researcher to serve as a Staff Service Fellow on the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) team.

The Staff Service Fellow will assist in managing tasks for creation of databases and tools for research and policy; guide and oversee contractors on data and tool development as well as other HCUP project tasks; and will conduct and oversee health research using data from administrative or discharge level databases and other data sources as appropriate. Research topics typically will address health care markets, affordability, and cost and payment issues with particular emphasis on the roles of physicians, hospitals, insurers, health plans, health systems, and the regulatory framework of health services. The Service Fellow will develop analytical techniques; conduct special analyses and studies; and write, edit, and coordinate major reports.

The position is a two-year renewable Staff Service Fellow appointment, at the civil service equivalent of a GS 12 or 13, depending on qualifications and experience. Because the necessary research or analytic skill-set could come from a number of different Social Sciences or Health Services Research disciplines, AHRQ has not specified a discipline and will consider any candidate demonstrating appropriate expertise and experience.

Recruitment Announcement: Health Services Research Methodologist

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s Center for Delivery, Organizations, and Markets (CDOM) is recruiting a Health Services Research methodologist to advance our work with the AHRQ Quality Indicators (QIs).

The AHRQ QIs, which use administrative data to measure and track safety, quality, and access, are one of the Agency’s most well-known and visible programs: the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) use many of the AHRQ QIs for public reporting and payment; states use some for public reporting; public health officials and others use them to target interventions for improving access and forestall potentially preventable hospital admissions; hospitals use the measures in quality improvement; and researchers use them extensively to develop new evidence about ways to improve safety, quality, accessibility, affordability, and equity. Because of this increasingly important and visible uses of the AHRQ QIs, it is essential that we continuously scrutinize them in light of the latest evidence and data capacities, and continuously improve and update them. The methodologist will work with the Quality Indicators team in AHRQ’s Center for Delivery, Organization, and Markets to accomplish this.

The position is a two-year renewable Staff Service Fellow position, at the civil service equivalent of a GS 12, 13, or 14, depending on qualifications and experience. Because the necessary methodological skill-set could come from a number of different disciplines, such as Statistics, Economics, Epidemiology, or Nursing, we have not specified a discipline and will consider any candidate demonstrating a rigorous measurement expertise.
