The ABMS Visiting Scholars Program is a one-year, part-time program that positions early career physicians, and others with relevant advanced degrees, as future health care leaders. ABMS Visiting Scholars conduct research relevant to initial and continuing Board Certification in collaboration with mentors from their institutions and liaisons from ABMS and its Member Boards.
The Program facilitates their research in areas such as:
  • Physician assessment
  • Physician performance improvement and quality improvement
  • Physician continuing professional development
ABMS Visiting Scholars remain at their home institutions and participate in monthly webinars with health care policy experts, quality improvement leaders, and others. Visiting Scholars attend three in-person leadership meetings, presenting their research findings at the annual ABMS Conference. Each Scholar receives a financial award to support the direct costs of research and travel expenses associated with his or her program participation.
The Visiting Scholars Program provides physicians with a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills. Visiting Scholars benefit from opportunities to engage with major health care organizations and network with fellow Scholars and ABMS leaders.
