Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee meeting recap



The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC) met April 10–11, 2019, in Baltimore, MD, on the campus of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Committee members discussed a range of topics including regulations affecting personnel in diverse laboratory settings, concerns relating to nontraditional testing workflows, and gaps in CLIA requirements relating to next-generation sequencing procedures. The Committee heard numerous public comments in these and other areas. In all, CLIAC made 23 recommendations.

Finally, the Committee bid farewell to outgoing chair, Dr. Ramy Arnaut, and members Dr. Sheldon Campbell and Ms. Helen Mills, thanking them for their service. Read the full meeting summary, posted on the CLIAC Past Meetings page. The next meeting will be held in November 2019, in Atlanta, GA.
