Peer support specialists will offer details on what makes these powerful programs work and what you can do to start one in your community. Peer support programs play an integral role in an effective system of care for families. Goals of peer support programs include to: 1) expedite access to substance use services and treatment, 2) reduce obstacles to recovery, 3) support families to meet the requirements of their treatment and child welfare case plans, and 4) help families remain together. Attendees will learn how to implement the new Four-Module Toolkit for Peer and Recovery Support Programs for Families Affected by Substance Use and Involved with Child Welfare Services and Understand the benefits of peer support specialist programs to engage families in substance use and other services. Identify considerations to design a peer support specialist program. Identify strategies to hire and retain peer support specialists. Presenters: Hanh Dao, Dawnia R. Flonnoy, Semaj Newton, and Chelsea Schoetzow NCSACW is a national resource center providing information, expert consultation, training, and technical assistance to child welfare, dependency court, and substance use treatment professionals to improve the safety, permanency, well-being, and recovery outcomes for children, parents, and families.
