Launched earlier this month, the website allows consumers to search for discounts on primarily brand-name drugs for customers who buy the drugs without using insurance. Consumers can print out manufacturer coupons that they typically can use at retail pharmacies. As of today, the site offers discounts on 43 different medications from five manufacturers that are used to treat a range of conditions, including asthma, arthritis, infertility, and diabetes. The discounts are only available to people who do not use insurance to purchase the drugs. In some cases, lower-cost generic versions of the drugs are available, potentially saving consumers even more money than the coupons. For people with insurance, the analysis walks through various scenarios to illustrate different factors that could determine whether the discounted drugs would provide any cost savings compared to using their insurance.
