Leadership style and patient safety: implications for nurse managers.

Merrill KC. J Nurs Adm. 2015;45:319-324.

Nurse managers play an important role in establishing safety culture on a hospital unit. This survey study found that proactive nursing leadership was associated with higher safety climate scores, whereas a laissez-faire leadership style seemed to negatively affect patient safety. A major limitation of this study is a small sample size and very low survey response rate.
