SAMHSA is pleased to announce the release of its Data Strategy for 2023-2026. This forward-looking strategy was developed after extensive consultation with diverse stakeholders. It provides a strategic framework to strengthen SAMHSA's data capabilities in service of its mission. Additionally, the Data Strategy complements SAMHSA’s Strategic Plan and actualizes the Agency’s commitment to data and evidence.
The Data Strategy focuses on four priority goals: enhancing SAMHSA’s ability to collect, capture and maintain high-quality data; conducting robust performance monitoring, evaluation, and surveillance; strengthening access to, utilization of, and dissemination of SAMHSA data; and expanding and strengthening SAMHSA’s workforce capacity.
To achieve these goals, the strategy outlines specific objectives, strategies, and actions. It calls for investments in human capital and information technology systems, increased transparency, reduced burden, and robust dissemination. The strategy incorporates principles of data quality, collaboration, and evidence-based practices.
This Data Strategy will improve the timeliness, quality, and utility of SAMHSA’s data. It will provide the insights required to better understand evolving needs and to enhance programs and policies. Ultimately, this will allow SAMHSA to better serve communities facing mental health and substance use challenges.

SAMHSA’s SMVF TA Center Invites Communities to Apply for Crisis Intercept Mapping Workshops Application Due Date: December 7, 2023
https://pra.typeform.com/to/rDbvAs2o?utm_source=SAMHSA&utm_campaign=3bd9eec9d2-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2023_11_17_02_09&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-3bd9eec9d2-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and its Service Members, Veterans, and their Families Technical Assistance Center (SMVF TA Center) are currently soliciting applications from communities interested in Crisis Intercept Mapping (CIM) Workshops. CIM Workshops are designed to bring together interagency teams from counties, cities, or other local jurisdictions to:
Assess local crisis care systems to improve coordination and services
Strengthening collaboration through military, Veteran, and civilian community partners
Apply evidence-based and best practices in SMVF suicide prevention
Develop a tailored Crisis Intercept Map for your community with a corresponding action plan to improve crisis care services
Given that the majority of Veterans who die by suicide are not connected to Department of Veterans Affairs at the time of their death, community-based partners in crisis response play a crucial role in prevention efforts. Your community’s commitment places you alongside other dedicated counties, cities, and regions from across the nation whom we are honored to support. Participating in the CIM initiative will empower an interagency team within your community to identify systemic gaps and enhance the delivery of evidence-based suicide prevention policies and practices, especially during a time of increased risk for SMVF.
