July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to focus on the mental and behavioral health of a substantial and growing part of the U.S. population. The U.S. Census Bureau predicts that by 2045 over half the U.S. population will be part of racial and ethnic minority groups. Disaster responders working in minority communities should provide and connect survivors with culturally appropriate, high-quality mental health education, tools, and support. The resources in this product provide information on the effects of disasters on Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and American Indian and Alaska Native communities, to highlight the importance of multicultural disaster planning and culturally competent mental health supports.

The intention of this session is to equip the behavioral health provider with tools to be able to integrate conversations about gambling and gaming, by creating a “safe space” to talk about them with cultural humility and sensitivity.
