Mental Health and Occupational Stress in the Emergency Medical Services and 911 Workforce: We addressed four Key Questions (KQs) related to: incidence, prevalence, and severity of mental health and occupational stress issues (KQ1); benefits and harms of interventions to promote resistance and resilience regarding these issues (KQ2); contextual and implementation factors of studies with effective EMS and telecommunicator workforce practices to prevent, recognize, and treat mental health and occupational stress issues (KQ3); and future research that is needed to close existing gaps regarding prevention, recognition, and treatment of mental health issues and occupational stress issues in the EMS and telecommunicator workforces (KQ4).
This systematic review addresses the mental health of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and 911 telecommunicator workforces. We address four Key Questions related to the: (1) incidence, prevalence, and severity of mental health and occupational stress issues; (2) benefits and harms of interventions to promote resistance and resilience regarding these issues; (3) contextual and implementation factors of studies with effective EMS and telecommunicator workforce practices to address these issues; and (4) future research that is needed to close existing gaps regarding addressing mental health and occupational stress issues in the EMS and telecommunicator workforces.
