Does the perception of severity of medical error differ between varying levels of clinical seniority?
Little is known about how the perceived severity of a medical error may differ by level of clinical experience or training. In this prospective study in England, medical students, junior doctors, and consultants provided their perceptions of error in eight hypothetical cases. The authors found significant differences in perception in three scenarios and suggest that there is opportunity to improve education regarding medical errors.
