This app aims to close health care gaps in the U.S.

The American Medical Association just rolled out a new version of a cool tool designed to help health care providers pinpoint the parts of the country where their skills are most needed. The Health Workforce Mapper lets users overlay two kinds of data: health measures of a given community and the care that's available to the people in that area. So a physician just wrapping up her residency in cardiac surgery could use the map to find areas where heart disease rates are particularly high and where there's a shortage of cardiovascular surgeons. The AMA is hopeful the tool could be used to narrow the gaps in access to medical care.
