Alexion pays $21 million to settle bribery charges

According to a settlement, disclosed by the Securities and Exchange Commission late last week, the company created a false set of accounting books to facilitate payments to Russian and Turkish government officials, in an effort to boost sales of Soliris, its most important drug. The company paid more than $1.3 million to a consultant in Turkey between 2010 and 2015, with records of the payment written in pencil to they could be easily rewritten, according to SEC documents.
