Pot brands tout false claims about medical marijuana for opioid use disorder

Some states allow medical marijuana dispensaries to sell their products to those with opioid use disorder. But new research finds that dispensaries in these states tend to carry brands that tout false claims about the drug. Looking at data from seven states where opioid use disorder is a qualifying condition for marijuana dispensing, researchers found that nearly 40% more dispensaries in these states claimed marijuana could treat opioid addiction compared to states that don't have such a policy. In states with the policy, dispensaries had 25% more brands that falsely claimed marijuana could replace approved medication for treating opioid use disorder.
