Insurance data reveal most common characteristics of Covid-19 patients in the U.S.

The latest study of the characteristics of Covid-19 patients from FAIR Health finds that chronic kidney disease and kidney failure were the most common comorbidity among those patients hospitalized with Covid-19. The study, which looked at private insurance data from January through May of this year, found that the median charge for hospitalization ranged from around $35,000 for patients ages 23-30, but was more than $45,000 for those in the 51-60 age group. In the Northeast, telemedicine visits were more common than emergency department visits for an initial diagnosis. Consistent with previous reporting, male patients were associated with more of the Covid-19 insurance claim lines than female patients.
