New research finds a wide gulf in engagement with mental health apps

Inside STAT: New research finds a wide gulf in engagement with digital mental health tools

Even as mental health apps have flooded the health tech market, their uptake by users remains relatively low. A new analysis — from Microsoft, Trinity College and the online behavioral health company SilverCloud Health — points to just how little people seem to be engaging with virtual mental health tools. Researchers found that only 10% of a sample of 50,000 users enrolled in an online cognitive behavioral therapy program were the highest engagers with the lowest attrition rates. The data will allow researchers to now find out what the experience of the lowest engagers was, study co-author Derek Richards tells STAT's Juliet Isselbacher, to then be able to ask "what can we do to enhance that experience.” STAT Plus subscribers can read more here
