NHSN AUR Module updated to include Remdesivir: Remdesivir has been added to the NHSN Antimicrobial Use (AU) Option. Facilities that submit data to the AU Option should work with their vendor and/or internal informatics team to ensure AU files are updated to include Remdesivir for July 2020 records moving forward. Please contact NHSN@cdc.gov with “hospital reporting COVID-19” in the subject line for questions regarding the COVID-19 Module or “AUR” for questions regarding the addition of Remdesivir.
NHSN Healthcare-associated Event Modules: A new reporting field to indicate that COVID-19 was identified in a patient with a healthcare-associated infection has been added to BSI, UTI, SSI, pedVAP, PNEU, pedVAE and VAE forms. The data field will help to identify events associated with patients who meet the COVID-19 module definitions for Confirmed COVID-19 and Suspected COVID-19. If the COVID-19 box is checked yes, the user has the ability to distinguish whether COVID-19 was laboratory confirmed or suspected. The COVID-19 field is optional for completion until NHSN has enabled CDA capture of the data, at which time the field will become required. This is tentatively scheduled for January 2021.
Please note: Future updates to the NHSN COVID-19 module are likely to continue as data requests continue to be received from federal and state COVID-19 planning and response partners. NHSN continues to advocate for data collection that will result in the least burden for healthcare facilities while providing the necessary public health information. Thank you for your continued NHSN participation and delivery of safe patient care during the COVID-19 pandemic .
