This pharma lobbyist is married to HHS’s second-in-command
Emily Hargan has been lobbying the Department of Health and Human Services on behalf of health care companies for about a month. Her husband, Eric Hargan, has been HHS deputy commissioner for about three years. That, according to ethicists, is less than ideal.
As STAT’s Nicholas Florko reports, Emily Hargan represents companies including Nostrum Pharmaceuticals, the blood glucose monitor company Smart Meter, and TL Management, which runs a chain of nursing homes.
“It stinks to high heaven,” said Richard Painter, who served as the White House’s top ethics lawyer under George W. Bush and has become an outspoken critic of the Trump administration.
