Winners of Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists announced
This year's national Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists are being announced today. The awards were given to an all-female list for the first time in the awards' history last year, and this year’s three winners were selected from a pool of 305 nominees who are 42 and younger: physicist Brian Metzger; chemist William Dichtel; and Princeton biochemist Clifford Brangwynne, whose work involves understanding the internal organization of cells, and how errors in their basic structure could lead to disease. Given out jointly the Blavatnik Family Foundation and the New York Academy of Sciences, the award comes with an unrestricted $250,000 prize. The award dinner for this year's winners had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and will be honored along with next year's winners in September 2021.
