Registration Is Now Open for AHRQ's May 7 Webinar on PSI Gap Analysis Findings
AHRQ is conducting a gap analysis to identify opportunities for future Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) measurement, including opportunities to expand PSIs to new care settings and populations. This gap analysis will also consider criteria for assessing new measurement opportunities (e.g., feasibility, impact, administrative burden).
AHRQ will share its interim findings from this analysis during a webinar on May 7 from 1:00–2:30 PM ET and welcomes feedback from interested attendees, including patients and patient advocacy groups, healthcare organizations, clinicians, patient safety experts, trade associations, health plans, and state and local health departments. During the webinar, Sue Sheridan and Dr. Peter Pronovost will provide their initial reactions on opportunities to improve the PSIs.

Recap of Our April Webinar: “Measuring and Responding to Safety Culture Across Healthcare"
The April webinar delved into pivotal research and evidence-based strategies to enhance safety culture. Bryan Sexton, Ph.D., illuminated critical insights on the validation of healthcare survey data research. He emphasized that there is five times more variability within work settings in a hospital than between different hospitals, underscoring the necessity of tailoring scales to address specific work setting-related needs. Furthermore, Dr. Sexton highlighted that safety climate is a major predictor of various outcomes. Most notably, emotional exhaustion is a key metric that forecasts clinical outcomes, operational performance, safety culture, and overall well-being.
Jonathan Bakdash, Ph.D., and Joann Sorra, Ph.D., provided a comprehensive examination of the AHRQ Surveys on Patient Safety Culture (SOPS). They shared real-world examples of how organizations have leveraged these surveys to drive meaningful change. They also introduced the latest pulse version of the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPS). They discussed how longitudinal data tracking can inform quality improvement initiatives.
Watch the recording of “Measuring and Responding to Safety Culture Across Healthcare” to delve deeper into valuable insights and strategies for enhancing patient safety within your organization. The April webinar, along with all previous webinar recordings and their accompanying PowerPoint slides, are available on the National Action Alliance website.
