Ninth child dies after viral outbreak hits pediatric care facility
A ninth child has died due to a respiratory illness after a viral outbreak at a pediatric long-term care facility in New Jersey. Health officials say 25 children have fallen ill in the outbreak, which was caused by a type of adenovirus. Adenoviruses are common and typically cause mild illness in kids, but can be particularly dangerous for those with compromised immune systems, like the children being cared for at Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. There haven't been any new cases since Oct. 22, and health officials say they are still closely monitoring the situation and tracking patient illnesses.
