Administration for Children and Families

THE EVIDENCE IS IN: FATHERSARE NECESSARY

Many things are tearing at the fabric of society—which, at its core, is the American family.
That's why HHS' Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is strongly encouraging all human services agencies—including all federal/state/local welfare agencies, courts, public assistance programs, family and youth services, and more—to prioritize and enhance paternal engagement.

There is a great deal of evidence indicating fathers play an important role in healthy child development and family stability. A father's positive involvement in the life of his child, both by direct engagement with the child and positive engagement with the mother, can lead to better child outcomes in a number of areas.
In the announcement of these changes, Clarence H. Carter, director, Office of Family Assistance said, “ACF is an enterprise for human well-being. We are endeavoring to leverage all of our program assets in support of the vital role of fathers in our society."
