Clinicians should screen women for partner violence, experts say
An expert panel on preventive care says that clinicians should screen all women of reproductive age for intimate partner violence, which is common in the U.S. but often goes undetected. In its recommendation, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force noted that intimate partner violence can not only lead to injury and death, but can also contribute to a slew of other health issues, from depression to chronic pain. The task force also found that there isn’t sufficient evidence right now to rule on whether to screen all older and vulnerable adults for abuse and neglect.
