What health leaders said at yesterday's Future of Health Summit
Health leaders made news yesterday in D.C. at the Future of Health Summit, hosted by the Milken Institute. Here’s a rundown:
- CDC Director Robert Redfield said he argued that U.S. experts should stay in the outbreak zone of the ongoing Ebola epidemic in DRC, but was overruled by others in the administration due to security concerns. The CDC was forced to withdraw workers several weeks ago.
- When asked about the Trump administration's proposal to define someone's sex at birth, Redfield said he wasn’t involved in the discussions, but noted that “stigmatizing individuals is not in the interest of public health.”
- HHS Secretary Alex Azar unveiled a new federal pilot program that aims to help mothers with opioid use disorder and their kids. CMS will partner with state Medicaid agencies on the project to integrate care for pregnant and postpartum women and their kids.
