USAID Commemorates World AIDS Day 2018

For 15 years, USAID has proudly served as an implementer of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). On December 1, World AIDS Day, we celebrate PEPFAR’s 15th Anniversary and the successes gained towards testing, treating and preventing HIV infections around the world. Thanks to American leadership and exceptional partnerships, countries are on the brink of reaching epidemic control - a critical step in tackling one of the greatest global health challenges of our time. As of September 2018, the Agency and other implementing partners under PEPFAR have: Supported lifesaving antiretroviral treatment for more than 14.6 million people and HIV counseling and testing for more than 95 million people. Enabled more than 2.4 million babies of HIV-positive mothers to be born HIV-free. Provided critical care and support for more than 6.8 million orphans, vulnerable children and their caregivers.
