This three-page report on cases of Ebola and Marburg fevers is based on data for 2017 retrieved from The European Surveillance System (TESSy) on December 11, 2018. For 2017, 28 European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) countries reported case-based data, and no cases of Ebola virus disease and Marburg hemorrhagic fever were reported in the EU/EEA. (PDF)

This 57-page document was developed to provide an actionable all-hazards measurement framework to assess the readiness of healthcare systems to respond to and recover from disasters and emergencies. The concept of readiness is a holistic concept that applies to all entities that deliver care (i.e., the healthcare system) within a particular community that is, or may be, affected by a disaster or emergency. This framework is a roadmap to guide the next steps in the quality measurement of healthcare system readiness. (PDF)

One year after Hurricanes Irma and Maria made landfall, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) are still feeling the storms’ effects. Drawing on key stakeholder interviews and public reports, this 15-page brief provides an overview of recovery status and preparation efforts for the current hurricane season one year after the storms, with a focus on the territories’ health care systems. Among the findings was that mental health remained a crisis in both territories. (PDF)

The original goal of this Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response (CASPER) for Kauai was to assess resident preparedness and health-related needs for natural disasters and other emergencies, but it changed when Hawaii experienced a state of emergency after torrential rainfall resulted in flooding across four counties in Hawaii from April 13-16, 2018. The CASPER objectives in this 31-page report were expanded to include an assessment of impact and ongoing needs related to the flood. (PDF)

This five-page report summarizes a Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response (CASPER) that was conducted September 17-21, 2018. The goal was to assess resident preparedness for an emergency or disaster. The survey focused on general emergency preparedness, such as having emergency supply items and plans, the preferred source of information during an emergency, evacuation intentions, and additional household needs such as durable medical equipment.
