Second case of Ebola confirmed in the city of Goma
Another case of Ebola has been confirmed in a man in the Congolese city of Goma, just two weeks after the first case was reported there. Congolese health officials said yesterday that the man first developed signs of the disease on July 22 after coming to the city a week earlier from Ituri province. They also said that there didn’t seem to be a link between this man — who has been isolated — and the man who presented with the first case earlier this month. Goma, a transit hub and city of roughly 2 million, borders Rwanda and another case there could mean a further spread of the disease. The news also comes on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the ongoing outbreak in the DRC, which was recently declared a public health emergency of international concern and has resulted in more than 2,600 cases and 1,700 deaths.
