The news media are an important source of information about complementary and integrative health. However, not all news reports are reliable. Some lack important information, and some are confusing, conflicting, or misleading.
For example, a news report may tell you that a complementary approach worked well in experimental animals. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s effective and safe in people. Or a news story may say that a study showed that a health product is good for you but not talk about other studies that didn’t find the same effect.
Our interactive module “Know the Science: The Facts About Health News Stories” can help you decide whether a news report is a good information source. We hope you’ll check it out and also take a look at the other resources in our Know the Science collection.
