Martin Shkreli wants you to hear him out on this one
As the world scrambles to find treatments for the novel coronavirus that has quickly become a global pandemic, what if it could draw on the experience of a seasoned drug inventor, a repeat biotech entrepreneur willing to devote all of his skills to the hunt for a therapy? Also what if the only thing standing in his way were a federal prison sentence?
Martin Shkreli, currently incarcerated for securities fraud, wants to be released on a three-month furlough so that he can help the world fight Covid-19. He co-authored a paper from prison looking at which existing drugs might be effective, and, in a statement tacked on to the research, made a plea for release.
“As a successful two-time biopharma entrepreneur, having purchased multiple companies, invented multiple new drug candidates, filed numerous INDs and clinical trial applications, I am one of the few executives experienced in ALL aspects of drug development from molecule creation and hypothesis generation,” Shkreli wrote.
