Large study shows link between fat, dairy consumption and adult acne

How diet influences the presence of acne in adults is still not fully clear, but a new study suggests an association with increased dairy and sugar intake. Researchers looked at data from more than 11,300 adults with acne who completed at least three questionnaires every six months about their diet on a given day. Those who reported consuming fatty and sugary products were more than 50% more likely to also have acne. The consumption of meat, fruits, and vegetables were associated with a decreased likelihood of having acne. The findings only represent an association, the authors of an accompanying editorial write, but are in line with previous research on the subject. Still, because of how complex diet is, the authors of the editorial call for more prospective studies to measure how manipulating diet could influence the presence of acne.
