FDA greenlights video game for kids with ADHD
The FDA just gave the green light for the first time to a game-based therapeutic, a video game meant to help kids with ADHD. Physicians will be able to prescribe the game, called EndeavorRx and developed by Akili Interactive Labs, to children ages 8 to 12 who have been diagnosed with ADHD. In the game, players travel through landscapes such as a winter wonderland to complete tasks, which earn them stars and points. Akili sees the game as a way to delivery algorithms that can activate and strengthen neural networks in the brain. The FDA's announcement said the game is intended to be a part of more a comprehensive treatment plan.
