Chan Zuckerberg Initiative announces grants for rare disease groups
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative announced two grants yesterday to support two major rare disease organizations. CZI is awarding $750,000 to the National Organization for Rare Diseases, a U.S.-based agency, to create a program to help rare disease patient communities establish nonprofits to advance their cause. Another goal of the grant will be to set up a program to help rare disease patient groups better work with researchers to understand how clinical trials and other aspects of science work. The other grant, worth over $530,000, is to the European Organization for Rare Diseases to develop Rare Disease Day (which falls at the end of February) campaigns for 2021 and 2022. The new grants follow more than $13 million in grants that CZI awarded to other rare disease groups earlier this year.
