As Amazon builds new health ventures, Haven struggles to gain ground

Amazon this week announced a partnership with Crossover Health, a venture-backed startup that has also struck deals with other major health players. But the deal, which will launch initial health clinics in Texas, threatens to step on the toes of Haven, which was also founded by Amazon along with JPMorgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway. Since its start in 2018, Haven has been struggling to clarify its vision and get off the ground. It has also been dealing with the departure of several high-level executives, including its former CEO, famed surgeon and writer Atul Gawande. There seems to be some overlap between Haven and Crossover Health in at least one area — creating a digital tool to connect patients with a provider team — which could further muddy Haven's role.
