A dilemma for 'long-haulers': Many can't prove they ever had Covid-19

Many Covid-19 "long-haulers," people who have been sick for several weeks or months, are facing a dilemma: Many couldn't be tested early on, and despite dealing with clinical signs of the infection, they have trouble convincing others that they do in fact have Covid-19. That was the case with wildlife veterinarian Emily Talkington, who knew that the exhaustion and tachychardia she began experiencing back in March were likely due to Covid-19 though she tested negative. And despite her prolonged, debilitating symptoms — including coughing up blood — her concerns were dismissed. An antibody test finally indicated prior infection. “It was very emotional to finally have validation, I sat down and cried for an hour,” she tells STAT contributor David Tuller. Read more here
