New Dana-Farber center to focus on BRCA-related cancers
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston just launched a new Center for BRCA and Related Genes. BRCA genes are most known for their role in breast and ovarian cancers, as alterations that are inherited or acquired in these genes can increase the risk of tumors. The genes have also been implicated in the development of pancreatic cancer. In its mission of preventing and treating BRCA-related cancers, the new center's goals include enrolling patients in clinical trials of new therapies and improving early detection of these cancers. The center will also work with Dana-Farber investigators who are studying the role of BRCA in lab settings.
