Covid-19 apps and wearables are everywhere. Can they actually benefit patients?
As the U.S. continues to record 1,000 or more new cases of Covid-19 on a near-daily basis, health tech companies are once again pitching their wearables and apps that can monitor and track infections in real time. But with this flood of tech tools, it's still unclear whether they actually do what they're supposed to. Beyond whether these devices provide accurate information is the issue of whether they will actually be beneficial in closing gaps in testing and contact tracing.
