Voters support Trump’s pricing plan — to a degree
Voters largely support President Trump’s plans to slash drug prices, but are less enthused about his proposal to end drug rebates, STAT’s Nicholas Florko reports. A survey of 2,000 voters found that 87% support forcing drug makers to sell their medicines at similar prices to those offered in other countries — and 82% want to allow drug importation from Canada.
However, only 48% said they approved of “banning drug companies from giving rebates or discounts to health insurance companies for certain prescription drugs that are covered by Medicare.”
“The Rebate Rule is the Achilles Heel of the president’s drug pricing agenda,” said Jon Conradi, a spokesperson for the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing, a group that has been vocally opposed to the rebate rule and that includes insurers and middlemen.
