Inside STAT: Some Covid-19 survivors feel stalked by possibility of reinfection

COVID-19 SICKENED THE ENTIRE CASTILLO FAMILY — JARROD, LETITIA, NESTOR, AND JAMES (LEFT TO RIGHT) — WHO POSE IN FRONT OF THEIR HOME IN CERRITOS, CALIF. (CRYSTAL MILNER/STAT)
While the fear of getting Covid-19 may be widespread, chief among those worried about infection are people who have already been flatted by it once before. The infection left 24-year-old Jarrod Castillo seriously ill in late June. His parents and brother were also infected. “I’ve recovered, but I’m even more afraid of going out today than I was in March,” Castillo says. Every tickle in his throat or twinge of pain in his limbs makes him worried that he's getting sick again. He's not alone. His and others' fears about reinfection are also being flamed by recent reports of reinfection in Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and Belgium, especially since there is still little that scientists know about the true risk of reinfection.
