New report encourages investing in emission-free vehicles for clean air
Clean air — or the lack of it — is front of mind for many here in the U.S., and a new American Lung Association report highlights how transitioning to electric transportation could pave the way for cleaner air. Transitioning the majority of on-road transportation to zero-emission vehicles by 2050 would not only cut carbon dioxide emissions, but this in turn would prevent 6,300 premature deaths and 93,000 asthma attacks. Some $72 billion in health costs — more than $22 billion in California alone — could be saved from implementing policies to mandate zero-emission vehicles. The report calls for action across all levels of authority, including investing in infrastructure for zero-emissions technology and having garbage trucks, public transit, and other fleets be made up of emission-free vehicles.
